Thanks to everyone who stopped by my table at Abilene Art Walk last night. My son Joshua came with me, helped me set up and talked wood working to everyone who came by.
We had a great time visiting with the many friendly people. People are always surprised at how beautiful mesquite is after it is formed into a bowl and finished glossy-smooth.
The Wylie High School Jazz Band entertained the block with some really good music.
Special thanks to Bill from The Leaf for letting me set up in front of his shop during Art Walk. If you need a good cigar or some great coffee this is the place to visit when you are in down town Abilene.
Last night’s Art Walk theme was Kid Walk, so special thanks goes out to all the wonderful kids. Not a single child dropped anything from the table, in spite of having all of the balls and a few tops positioned right in front.
However, two adults did drop things. One dropped a top on the concrete after trying to spin it on the table (it didn’t break!) . Another adult was playing (yes, playing, as in throwing it in the air) with one of the wooden spheres and dropped it on the table, where it bounced, knocked over bowls, hit other balls and came to a stop in the midst of the tops.
Nothing broke. Mesquite is very tough wood, but from now on I might require child supervision when grownups are in the area!
